Time Zone & Climate

Time Zone

Kyrgyzstan is in UTC+6 (GMT+6) time zone year-round. There is no daylight saving time; a single time zone covers the whole country.

Climate

The climate is continental with notable daily and seasonal temperature swings. Elevation strongly affects weather: mountains are cooler and windier, and snow is possible on high passes even in summer. Around Issyk-Kul, the climate is milder: winters are warmer and summers less hot.

Seasons (briefly)

  • Winter (Dec–Feb): in valleys typically −5…+5 °C; much colder and snowy in the mountains.
  • Spring (Mar–May): warms fast, changeable weather with rain; valleys about +5…+20 °C.
  • Summer (Jun–Aug): hot in lowlands +25…+35 °C (higher in the south); in the mountains days are cool, nights are near 0 °C.
  • Autumn (Sep–Nov): often dry and clear, comfortable temp. +5…+20 °C; early snow possible at high elevations.

Tip: Pack in layers (a fleece/windbreaker even in summer), bring sunscreen and a hat for high altitude, and check the forecast and road conditions before crossing mountain passes.
