Summer Resorts (Issyk-Kul)

Northern Shore — Active & Family-friendly

Cholpon-Ata, Bosteri, Tamchy, Kara-Oy. Sandy beaches, hotels with pools, promenades, water activities. Perfect for families and anyone who wants everything close at hand.

Tip: peak season is July–August. Book early and check if the hotel has a private beach/sun loungers.


Southern Shore — Quieter & Closer to Nature

Bokonbaevo, Tosor, Tamga, Kadji-Sai (Kaji-Say). More space and fewer people, ethno-lodges and yurt camps; nearby canyons, rocky beaches and hiking spots.

Tip: afternoons can be windy in the south — plan swimming and boat rides for the morning.


Wellness & Thermal Baths

Sanatorium and balneological options around Issyk-Kul and the foothills: radon/mineral springs, thermal pools (e.g., around Karakol), SPA/rehab programs.

Tip: when booking, confirm medical services (consultations, procedures) and indoor pools for bad-weather days.

Winter Resorts (Skiing & Snowboarding)

Karakol

The country’s flagship ski area with long runs, solid vertical and views of the Tian Shan. Rentals, schools, slopeside and in-town lodging.

Tip: best snow is usually in January–February; on holidays, be there for the first chair.


Chunkurchak

(near Bishkek)Modern facilities close to the capital—ideal for weekends. Great for families and beginners.

Tip: weather changes fast in the gorge—bring a face mask/balaclava and spare gloves.


Orlovka, ZIL/Oru-Sai & Others

Smaller Chüy Valley resorts with mellow slopes, rentals and cafés—great to warm up before bigger mountains.

Tip: morning rides after a freshly groomed slopes are the best


Freeride & Snowshoeing

Jyrgalan, Suusamyr, Too-Ashu Pass are popular with freeriders; cat-ski and ski-tour depend on weather and avalanche conditions. Beginners can book local guides and avalanche courses.

Tip (safety): avalanche kit (beacon, probe, shovel) + helmet are essential; go with a local guide and monitor avalanche reports.
